Breaking Free from Old Patterns Your Journey to Lasting Change

Ever feel like you're running in circles, trying to build better habits but somehow ending up right back where you started? Well, I've got news for you: that's not failure, it's progress!

In this spark session of The Habit Within podcast, I'm introducing a new format designed to light a fire under your booty and get you back on track. These quick, punchy episodes are all about rekindling your motivation and reminding you that you're the star of your own show.

What you'll discover in this episode:

  • Why noticing old habits resurfacing is a gift, not a setback
  • How to reframe your perspective on progress
  • The power of awareness in propelling you forward
  • Real-life examples of overcoming habit hurdles
  • Why perfect progress is boring (and unrealistic)

"Progress isn't always a straight line. It is like a bumblebee trying to make it from one flower to the next. There are loop de loop de loops."

I'll share my own recent struggles with productivity and how I'm using awareness to get back on track. Plus, you'll learn why setbacks are actually opportunities in disguise and how to use them to fuel your determination.

So, if you're feeling stuck or discouraged, this episode is your wake-up call. It's time to embrace the messy, non-linear path of progress and recognize that every moment of self-reflection is bringing you closer to becoming the best version of yourself.

Hey, hey friends, welcome back to the habit within. Today I'm starting something a little bit new. It's called a spark session.

It's going to be these shorter, punchier, motivational, inspirational podcasts that I'm hoping to deliver to you in under 10 minutes to really get you back on your journey, get you back to where you feel inspired and motivated and ready to take on the day, take on your life, be the driver of your car, not the passenger of your existence. You are the main character energy and I want you to remember that through these spark sessions. I might play around with the name.

So if you guys have any great suggestions, send them my way. The whole premise behind it is to, yeah, get a little fire under your booty to get you back on track so you can live this life, this one and only life that you have right now to the fullest of your potential. So today we're going to talk about, let's see, so we're going to call this today's spark is we're going to talk about slipping back into old habits and how that actually doesn't mean that you failed.

We've all heard that saying, taking one step forward and two steps back, but we're going to change all that because really you're not going backwards. So maybe it's the two steps forward and one step back, but it is not slipping back into your old patterns because let me tell you why, because if you catch yourself, if you catch yourself slipping back into old patterns, that means already that you're making progress because once you have awareness, you can never truly go back to where you were before. In fact, it's a sign of progress.

So every time that you feel like you're taking one step forward and two steps back, I want you to stop it. I want you to stop saying that and actually realize that if it feels like you're slipping back into old patterns, it's actually a gift and it's a gift because you are aware of it and awareness is what is going to propel you forward. So whether this is in fitness, relationships, your career, or finances, I want you to think about it right now.

Name that one thing that you feel like you're slipping back into an old pattern and when you see that and recognize it and recognize the old patterns that are resurfacing, simply recognize it. So for me, this is actually, I mean, of course, you know, I typically teach what is really needed in my life in the moment and what I've noticed is this pattern of slipping back into not focusing on the things that I need to propel my business forward. So all of that, what I like to call the chopping wood and carrying water, the boring stuff within our, within my business.

So it might be the boring stuff that's within your life that builds on those habits to get you to your ultimate goal. When that becomes mundane and boring, then we typically don't want to do it, right? Because we, everything that we do has a meaning, has a purpose behind it. And so what I did is I noticed myself that I was getting caught up in this idea that I didn't have anything to talk about on this week's podcast, for example, or there are so many things that I want to do in propelling my business forward that it's just too much.

It's too overwhelming. I create stories around how I'm not feeling well, which I'm not. I have a cold, but it's just a cold.

I mean, it's nothing too severe. A lot of my friends have fever and lots of things going on. So for me, it feels, you know, like this is something that I can still record this podcast and create content and even move my body by doing slower walks and enjoying the sun and getting that vitamin D. But what I noticed is, and this was even a couple of days prior to getting the cold, that I started getting back into my old cycle where I would wake up and putz around.

I have been doing a lot of putzing where I'm just like moving stuff from one area to the other, where in my brain I'm moving stuff from one area to the other. So metaphorically and literally, I'm moving things around from one place to the other without actually putting them in their proper place, putting the item where it needs to go and putting my energy on that. Remember, you're always committed to something.

Even when you feel like you're not committed to that one thing, you're committed to the other. So I was finding that I was committed more to putzing around and not pushing myself and challenging myself. I was more committed to that than taking myself out of my comfort zone and growing.

And so you might notice that you've been slipping into some of your old patterns. Maybe you started working out in the new year or eating more healthy or that you're that you stopped drinking or drinking less and you're noticing them that is creeping back up to your levels that they were before. And this is just your opportunity to say, slow down, check it out.

What's going on? Where am I slipping in my life? Where have I taken a step back or two steps back? And how can I really look at this as a gift? How can I look at this and change it and say, now that I have awareness around it, what can I do now? This is your sign that you are ready to move forward. You are ready to start again. Every time that you catch yourself slipping, it is a sign that you are pushing your limits.

And that is a good thing. That means that you're stepping out of your comfort zone, which is a good thing. Because remember, if you didn't dream it, it's not possible for you.

But if you dreamed it, it is possible for you. So this is your moment. This is your time where you are making real change happen in your life.

When you notice that you're slipping back, that means that you were making real change happen in your life. And remember always when real change happens in your life, it has this massive ripple effect on everyone else around you in a profound way. So if you want more on how to handle these challenges with confidence, then we can dive right into it in this episode.

But for now, let me just take this moment to inspire you that you are not defined by your setbacks. You are defined by your awareness, your willingness to grow, and your ability to keep going. So keep going, woman.

Keep going no matter what. Keep that fire burning. So today's message is simple.

Progress is not a straight line. And who wants it to be a straight line anyway? That is not fun. That is not beautiful.

(6:50 - 8:31)

I like to picture it more like the bee going from one flower to the next in these loop-de-loops. We're enjoying the ride. We are enjoying the roller coaster.

So sometimes it can feel like you're not making progress. But every single time you catch yourself slipping into old patterns and you encounter a setback, then that is your signal to focus on the habit of the mind. That awareness is so powerful.

It means that you're engaged in your journey. It means you're ready to learn. It means you are eager to adjust your course.

It means that you are brave enough to pivot when it is not working. It does not mean that you try harder doing the exact same thing. It means you try differently.

So whether this is in your career or your relationship or your finances or building better daily habits, each moment of self-reflection is a step towards becoming the best version of you, the you that you were meant to be. Remember, setbacks are not failures though. They're opportunities to learn, to adapt, and to come back stronger.

So embrace these moments as part of your unique journey. You are so unique. You are so beautiful.

You are doing everything just right. So let this fuel your determination to keep you moving forward. And you've got this.

Send me a message letting me know that you hear me, woman, that you hear me loud and clear, and I am rooting for you. Root for you as loudly as I'm rooting for you. And if you like these Spark Sessions, please let me know and I'll continue to do them.
